Chic Shoes to Take You From Valentines to Spring!

Jan 30, 2017

Counter-clockwise from top: Puma, Jeffery Campbell, Kristen Cavallari, Asos, Jeffery Campbell, Steve Madden, Naturalizer, Steve Madden, Nike, Christian Louboutin, Sam Edelman, Nike, Sam Edelman, Loeffler Randall, BCBG, Public Desire, Lola Shoetique, Nike

As a girly-girl, I obviously love all the pink and red fashion and decor that comes with Valentine's Day, but when purchasing I always like to think of how to re-use a piece more than once. Since shoes are my thang, if I am treating myself this V-Day, I want something adorable that can transition right into spring and summer as well! Velvet is so in right now, but let's be honest: when those warm spring temps start to roll in, velvet may look a little out of season (except I couldn't pass on those kick-ass booties).

I love all the nudes this season, and I cannot wait to add more sneaks to my collection with that drool-worthy pair of huarache's 😍

My Top Workout Wear Picks For Spring!

Apr 29, 2016

Ok so my athleisure-wear game is currently strong thanks to all the freaking sweet options out there, I just can't get enough! With my newly amassed sneaker collection, nothing thrills me more than coordinating a cute outfit I can wear to work out and then wear out.
I'm a Nike girl to the core, but I'm also a Zella girl too. Every single piece I have from Zella I am obsessed with. I love feeling comfy in my workout clothes, and Zella never disappoints!
I recently copped that all-gray outfit from Old Navy above and the fabrics are sooo soft, I could sleep in them. It's a great casual look for traveling too!

Fresh Kicks for Spring!

Apr 19, 2016

Happy Shoesday-Tuesday!

Time for a true story: Going into my freshman year of college, I owned zero pairs of sneakers. Not one. I also never owned a pair of sweatpants either but that's a story for another day, along with the fact that I owned 2 pairs of jeans (my high school nickname was anti-pants), but we wont go there now! It wasn't until fall break that I came home and told my mom "crap, there are a lot of hills on campus to walk and my shoes don't cut it" hence I then purchased my first pair of Nikes. Fast forward 10 years and I am a total sneaker-head.

Since I spend three days of my week working out, I love to switch up my athletic style with funky and colorful kicks that I can wear out of the gym as well. When purchasing a new pair, I make sure the style looks great with skinny jeans, joggers, and workout pants alike. Below are my favorite picks right now, and a couple of them are currently on sale! I've linked them below!

How To Care For Your Shoes

Feb 5, 2016

I'm a shoe girl, always have been, always will be. I believe shoes set the tone for your outfit; that is the shoes make or break it. I spend quality money on the shoes I purchase so I want to make sure they last as long as possible and look as brand new as possible. There is nothing that ruins a look more than when your shoes are beat and dirty.
When I started purchasing my own shoes, I made it a habit to pre-care when I buy them and clean my shoes regularly to keep them in tip-top shape. Below I have tips for caring for the majority of fabrics for shoes: leather, sneaker material, and suede.

.Leather.

Boots are pricey no matter what shape they are, and leather requires the utmost care. As soon as my leather shoes come out of the bag, I immediately pull out the Kiwi polish, take a soft cloth and buffer in circles. Wipe off the excess with the cloth and put aside to set. I regularly wipe them clean throughout the fall and winter, and then polish them one more time before I store them in their bags for the spring/summer. You can buy the perfect polish at Target.

.Sneaker Fabric.

I remember growing up my brother had the largest white sneaker collection. Keep in mind this was mid-nineties when he was in high school, so they were the legit high-tops and trainers. I guess that ingrained in my mind that sneakers always look best clean, like their right out of the box. I'm also a sneakerhead (and brand loyal obviously) so keeping my casual kicks as perfect as possible is my goal. I went to the local drugstore and got these sprays with a brush head on top. One is for prep & seal, and the other is a routine cleaner. Just like with my boots, I made this a routine habit as well. Those pale pink wedge kicks are over 5 years old and have not a spot on them!

.Suede.

My heels collection is !!! While I display only the best on a rack in my room, the rest line my walk-in's floor. These stay year round, because even if I'm not wearing these in the snow, I love looking at them every time I walk into the room. Heels are the most precious to me since they are my typical 'weekend' shoe. Now with suede, you have to be more careful when it comes to care and keep. It is best to treat suede with a soft-bristle brush, like the one shown above. A toothbrush also works and is probably best for small areas like the heel and the toe tip. NEVER use water to wipe off a stain on suede. I made that mistake on the fuchsia ones above once, and I saw fuchsia water drops all over my sink (freak-out mode). If there is a stain, try using a little bit of white vinegar to dissolve and brush out. I try not to wear my suede shoes in anything but dry weather and clean pavement. From time to time however, I do take them to a cobbler and have them cleaned and the heel tap reinforced.

The other ways I treat my shoes are with insoles, traction pads on the bottom soles, and heel guards. The shoes that aren't on display, I keep in my walk-in, or in off seasons, in flat, plastic storage totes in the basement to keep them clean. All of these aids I talked about above, along with cleaners and storage can be found at Target.

Shoes are not only function, but they can be works of art and design too. Treat them right!

Minimal Chic Active Wear

Jan 18, 2016

Happy Monday!

Outfit: Outdoor Voices // Wrap Top: Nordstrom // Tank: (comes in merlot color too) Old Navy // Pullover: Nike // Backpack: Rebecca Minkoff // Sneakers: Nike // Water Bottle: Swell

I got back last night from a weekend in NY for bridal festivities for my best friend/college roomie's upcoming wedding and it was such a fun weekend meeting some new friends, and seeing my other old roomie Nicole again (I haven't seen her for 8 years and she hasn't changed a bit, that b* is still funny).

Lately I've been super into athletic wear that can be equally chic running errands, shopping, lunching, etc. I'm loving clean, simple silhouettes in neutral tones that can be worn many different ways with other items for a normal day-to-day outfit if not at the gym. The new-ish company Outdoor Voices in perfect to me in everyway. Their aesthetic is practical, easy, modern and chic without the excess fabrics, distracting prints, and best of all it is wearable for other life functions. I also love the mesh trend I see in athletic wear right now so that mesh top (on super sale) is chic enough to go from Pilates to brunch. Besides black, grey is my favorite color for athleisure wear, so those Air Max's entertain endless possibilities, where as emerald green is my signature color (and the new arrivals favorite of OV) and rose quartz is the 2016 Pantone color of the year. Plus, give me a ballerina inspired wrap anytime and I'm on board!

How to Refresh for The New Year!

Jan 11, 2016

Today I thought I'd share some ways that I get re-charged and on track to stay healthy and in-shape. I've never been a fan of exercise and when I see people run outside, I still ask "how is that fun?" Fat Amy really knew what she was talking about when she said "yeah, no don't put me down for cardio". I hate, hate, hate, double hate, loathe entirely, cardio.
(Ok I'm done with the movie quotes, for now)

So here is how I got to my current situation of loving working out: I love to walk. I have tried: Zumba (hate), gyms (hate), and Barre (loved, but wanted faster results). My body type is petite and athletic, I'm only 5'2 and my muscles form pretty quickly, especially in my legs. It wasn't until I tried weight lifting that I fell in love. Now I love to pick anything up that's heavy, I even offer to move file boxes at work ( insert cornball 'do you even lift bro?' here). And no, I'm not talking about bloody Crossfit.

I simply found someone who tailored my workouts to me, being lots of toning, weight lifting, and HIIT/ cardio bursts. So here are my tips for getting motivated and getting into it.

1. Active wear obsession is real-let a cute outfit motivate you to show it off

Outfit #1
Top & Leggings: Old Navy // Sneakers: Nike

Outfit #2
Jacket: Target // Tank: Old Navy // Leggings: Nike // Sneakers: Above, Nike

Outfit #3
Head to Toe Nike
You do not have to pay mucho bucks for great active wear. I've been to those websites like Carbon 38, and Bandier Fit, and I love the products but refuse to pay $100 for a tank top. Not happening. I'm brand loyal to Nike personally, they always have great stylish pieces and lust-worthy shoes that are great quality. I also shop Old Navy's active wear for their cute printed leggings, sheer tops for layering and tanks with quotes on them when I want to freshen up my color schemes.

2. Drink More Water!!

Ok so is the 'Yeti'. My dad has some weird admiration for Gander Mountain even though he is not an outdoorsman and hates any kind of fishing, hunting, etc. but whatever. He saw these coolers that were $400 called Yeti that I guess could keep ice frozen for like 4 days or something like that. When he discovered they made a hot/cold drink tumbler, he paid the $32 for it and the rest is history. He went out and bought two more, one for me and one for my mom and it's all I drink from now no matter where I am. It keeps my water so cold, that I actually end up drinking more water because it tastes so refreshing. I never drank this much water before and now I'm constantly refilling it. We all know what they say, but I do feel peppy-er since drinking all this water, and that's a big deal for me. You can get the yeti, Here.

3. Clean Eating

Clean Eating Magazine, Book: here // Tea: here

Now this deserves a post all on its own, but clean eating changed my life. Not in a dramatic way, I mean we always have eaten healthy at home and I've never had to lose weight, but I mean for my energy and overall feeling, it changed my life. I have always been a tired bird, I could out-sleep anyone. It wasn't until CE that I saw my energy levels go up. Combining CE and working out has been the biggest positive change I've seen.

My first year CE, I made the mistake of being too hard on myself when I would have a cheat meal or snack, and wallowed in self-pity thinking it would set me back. I know that kind of thinking is dangerous and is a gate-way to other harmful thinking, so I made CE work for me: the 80/20 rule. I eat clean during the week, and eat more relaxed during the weekend. I never deprive, I never say no to anything. After all, this is a lifestyle choice, not a diet. Like being a Vegan, or Vegetarian, or Paleo. I've never restricted myself in my life, and I plan on never starting.

With working out twice/three times a week, I was hungry more so I do the 5-6 small plates a day thing to keep me satisfied and keep my metabolism going. I eat lots of protein since I lift weights, and just try to balance my good carbs in the mornings. Here is my clean eating guidelines: Fruits, veggies, lean meats, nuts/grains, and limited dairy to include almond milk and Greek yogurt. So during the week no: breads, sweets, beef, crackers, etc. I don't snack a lot, and I don't eat junk food or fast food so the weekends are primarily saturated with sweets (yes I know sugar is an addiction, I'm aware-I'm addicted).

I will do another post with my best CE recipe's soon since there are some I make every week they are so good, along with showing how I meal prep for the work week and what I eat before and after my workouts. My boyfriend always rolls his eyes and asks "so what's this crap?" when I feed him something clean, but it really is a simpler, healthy eating style. That's it, plain and simple. What we should eat more of to fuel our bodies and overall natural health.

Happy 2016, let's start it off right!

I've been a busy bee lately! I have 5 days off from work, and not a moment of rest, but I have had lots of fun so no complaints here.
